Leaning, extension, step, platform, combination and roof ladders, what each is for, and the questions that decide whether a ladder is the right choice at all.
The right ladder for a task depends on the height, the duration, the work being done and the ground it stands on. Choosing badly is behind a large share of ladder falls: a stepladder used as a leaning ladder, a domestic ladder on a building site, a leaning ladder for a two handed job. Here is what each type is for.

Let's be honest with you. The internet is full of scam training websites and reviews no real customer wrote. That's why we do the opposite. Every review we have was written by a real person who took a real course with us. No fakes. No hidden feedback. They all live on Google Maps, where we can't edit, delete or hide a single word. Now we hold the No.1 spot across the whole of Ireland, with the best reputation in the country and more real reviews than any other health and safety training company, built on 30 years of real work at honest prices. You don't have to take our word for it. Just tap the Verify us on Google button below and read every review. One last thing, friend to friend: scammers have started copying our company name and registering look-alike domains that use "Ireland Safety" or "Irish" in the name. Those websites are not us. Please be careful, and check the reviews on Google Maps before you trust.

Straight answers about the ladder safety course for Ireland learners: local acceptance, online delivery, certification and pricing at Ireland Safety Training.
For most workplace tasks a platform stepladder with a handrail, because it allows two handed work with a stable stance. For anything longer or heavier a podium or tower is safer still.
No, unless it is a combination ladder designed and locked for that configuration. A standard stepladder leaned against a wall is unstable.
Working on pitched roofs: it hooks over the ridge and spreads the load across the roof surface, used together with edge protection or fall arrest.

Discover why workers and businesses in Ireland, from Dublin, Cork, Galway and beyond, choose Ireland Safety Training for ladder safety training.
The ladder safety course at Ireland Safety Training fits Ireland working life perfectly. From Dublin's construction cranes and Cork's pharma plants to Galway's medtech campuses, Limerick's manufacturing belt and the farms, hotels, warehouses and hospitals in every county between, Irish workplaces run on certified, compliant staff. Instead of losing a day to a classroom, learners in Ireland complete the full accredited training online, in about 1-2 hours, from home or straight from the workplace.
Local employers know exactly what they are looking at when your certificate arrives: CPD Certified, RoSPA approved, HSA aligned training from a provider used by businesses across every county in Ireland. The unique verification code on every certificate makes checks instant, whether you work in Dublin, Cork or Galway.
For businesses, the free Employer Dashboard turns a team rollout into one afternoon of work: bulk registration, live progress and every ladder safety certificate in one clean screen, with automatic volume discounts applied at checkout.
This ladder safety training was built for people whose calendars have no free afternoons: shift workers, site crews and small teams covering for each other. Every lesson streams on any device, every pause saves your place, and nothing needs installing. Clear visuals, a dedicated video lesson and short interactive checks turn the risk assessment, the inspections and the setup rules into habits you carry to the foot of every ladder.
The syllabus follows exactly what the HSA expects wherever ladders and stepladders are used: justify the ladder before you climb, check it before every use, set it at 75 degrees with the 1 in 4 rule, secure it in the right order and keep three points of contact while you work. The examples come straight from Irish workplaces, from building sites and warehouses to shops, farms and office storerooms.
One certificate for yourself or a rollout across an entire crew, the flow from registration to certificate stays effortless either way.
A classroom ladder course costs far more than the ticket price: a lost work day per person, travel, and cover for whoever stays behind. The online ladder safety course deletes all of that. Staff certify from home or between jobs, starting the moment you enrol them.
Managers watch each completion appear in real time and can hand an inspector the full training record in seconds. Add the automatic volume discounts and this becomes the most economical accredited ladder training in Ireland.
The price is honest: one figure covers the full course, unlimited retakes and the instant ladder safety certificate. Nothing extra at checkout, ever.
No fixed dates, no waiting lists, no rushing. The self paced ladder safety course moves at whatever speed suits you, pausing on any device and resuming exactly where you left off, before a shift, after work or on the bus home.
A clear progress tracker shows how much of the ladder training remains and how close the certificate is. Plenty of learners finish in a single sitting; others spread it over a few evenings. Both routes end at the same certificate.
Assign it to a team and it slots around the rota without touching productivity, one of the main reasons Irish businesses come back to Ireland Safety Training year after year.
No waiting around, no posted certificates weeks later. Pass the assessment and the digital ladder safety certificate is generated on the spot, aligned with Irish legislation and recognised across Ireland, the UK and Europe.
It stays permanently in your account for re-download during HSA inspections, job applications, tenders and insurance renewals, and its unique verification code lets any inspector confirm it instantly.
On a CV, a ladder safety certificate signals work at height competence that employers in construction, maintenance, warehousing, retail and facilities specifically look for.
Every module comes from licensed, Chartered (CMIOSH) consultants who know exactly what Irish inspectors check on inspection day.
It shows in the details: risk assessment walked through on real tasks, pre use checks that catch the defects behind most ladder falls, the securing sequence demonstrated in the correct order and working techniques that survive contact with a busy site. Every lesson stays practical rather than academic.
Content is re-reviewed against current Irish legislation and HSA guidance, including the HSA information sheet on using ladders safely, so the ladder safety course never drifts out of date.
The platform never closes, which matters when your working week barely does either. Start the ladder training after work, continue before a shift and finish on a day off, whatever rhythm your week allows.
Progress syncs across every device automatically, so switching from phone to laptop mid module is seamless. Shift workers, site crews and warehouse teams get exactly the same premium experience.
Teams can also reopen the inspection module before an audit or the setup module before an unusual job, turning the ladder safety course into a living reference rather than a one time event.
Ireland Safety Training has certified more than 749,500 learners across Ireland, the UK and Europe, with a 98% pass rate and a 4.9 star average from verified Google reviews we cannot edit or hide.
From Dublin to Cork, Galway to Limerick and Waterford to Belfast, our ladder and stepladder training keeps Irish workplaces compliant and people safe.
Businesses come back because it simply works: clean records, instant certificates and a support team that answers.
Far more businesses than expect it. The General Application Regulations 2007, Part 4, applies to any task where a fall could cause injury, and that includes restocking a high shelf, cleaning a gutter or changing a light fitting from a stepladder. The Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 requires employers to train the people doing those tasks.
In practice, our learners are builders, electricians, plumbers, painters, warehouse and retail staff, cleaners, window cleaners, facilities teams and farmers, plus the owners and managers responsible for their safety.
If there is a single ladder or stepladder anywhere on your premises, this training applies to you, and our Irish support team can help roll it out across every location.
Leaning, extension, step, platform, combination and roof ladders, what each is for, and the questions that decide whether a ladder is the right choice at all.
A single section leaning ladder rests against a structure at 75 degrees and suits short access tasks. Extension ladders add two or three overlapping sections, extended by hand or by rope and pulley, for reaching gutters, roofs and upper windows. Both need securing and a minimum overlap between sections as marked by the manufacturer.
Stepladders are self supporting with hinged front and rear sections and locking spreaders; do not work from the top two steps or lean sideways. Platform steps add a wide platform and a handrail, letting the user work two handed and for longer, and are the safer choice for repetitive indoor work such as shelving.
Combination ladders convert between leaning, stepladder and stairway configurations; every hinge must lock before use. Telescopic ladders are compact but must be fully clicked into position rung by rung. Roof ladders hook over the ridge to spread the load on fragile or sloping roofs and are used with edge protection or fall arrest.
Ask three questions. Is the task short, roughly under 30 minutes in one position? Is it light and can it be done with one hand while keeping three points of contact? Can the ladder be secured on firm, level ground? Three yes answers and a ladder is reasonable. Any no points to a tower, a podium or a mobile elevating work platform.
Short access tasks, secured at 75 degrees, correct overlap.
Self supporting; platform steps for longer two handed work.
Short, light, securable. Otherwise use a platform.
Equipment selection is one of the core modules of the accredited Ladder Safety Course, with a CPD certified certificate on completion.
