How electricity injures, the four main hazards, the everyday situations that cause them in Irish workplaces and the controls that prevent them.
Electricity gives no warning. It is invisible, silent and odourless, and the 230 volt supply in every Irish workplace is more than enough to kill. Electrical accidents are less common than falls or manual handling injuries, but a far higher proportion are fatal, and most involve ordinary equipment used carelessly: a damaged extension lead, a kettle in a wet kitchen, a drill with a taped up cable.

Let's be honest with you. The internet is full of scam training websites and reviews no real customer wrote. That's why we do the opposite. Every review we have was written by a real person who took a real course with us. No fakes. No hidden feedback. They all live on Google Maps, where we can't edit, delete or hide a single word. Now we hold the No.1 spot across the whole of Ireland, with the best reputation in the country and more real reviews than any other health and safety training company, built on 30 years of real work at honest prices. You don't have to take our word for it. Just tap the Verify us on Google button below and read every review. One last thing, friend to friend: scammers have started copying our company name and registering look-alike domains that use "Ireland Safety" or "Irish" in the name. Those websites are not us. Please be careful, and check the reviews on Google Maps before you trust.

Electric shock, burns including arc flash, fire from electrical faults, and explosion where electricity ignites flammable atmospheres.
Currents as low as 30 milliamps through the chest can cause a fatal heart rhythm. The 230 volt mains supply can easily drive that current through a person, especially with wet skin.
A residual current device: a safety switch that detects current leaking to earth, for example through a person, and disconnects the supply in milliseconds. RCDs rated at 30 milliamps protect socket circuits and portable equipment.

Discover why workers and businesses in Ireland, from Dublin, Cork, Galway and beyond, choose Ireland Safety Training for electrical safety training.
The electrical safety training course at Ireland Safety Training fits Ireland working life perfectly. From Dublin's construction cranes and Cork's pharma plants to Galway's medtech campuses, Limerick's manufacturing belt and the farms, hotels, warehouses and hospitals in every county between, Irish workplaces run on certified, compliant staff. Instead of losing a day to a classroom, learners in Ireland complete the full accredited training online, in about 1-2 hours, from home or straight from the workplace.
Local employers know exactly what they are looking at when your certificate arrives: CPD Certified, RoSPA approved, HSA aligned training from a provider used by businesses across every county in Ireland. The unique verification code on every certificate makes checks instant, whether you work in Dublin, Cork or Galway.
For businesses, the free Employer Dashboard turns a team rollout into one afternoon of work: bulk registration, live progress and every electrical safety certificate in one clean screen, with automatic volume discounts applied at checkout.
Electrical hazards do not announce themselves, so the course trains your eye instead. Lessons stream on any device, every pause is saved, and nothing has to be installed. Real workplace scenarios and clear photographs turn the risk assessment, safe isolation and the pre-use check into habits you can carry onto tomorrow's job.
The syllabus follows what the HSA expects wherever people work with or near electricity: identify the hazards of the specific task, assess and control the risks in writing, keep equipment maintained and protected, and know exactly which device, fuse, breaker or RCD, stands between a fault and an injury.
One certificate for a new role or a whole crew to certify before a contract starts, either way the journey from registration to certificate runs without friction.
Classroom electrical safety courses swallow shifts, travel time and cover costs, and pulling a scattered team of electricians, maintenance staff and site workers into one room on one day borders on impossible. Moving the training online removes the whole problem. Staff certify from home, the office or the site cabin, starting the minute they are enrolled.
Completions appear in the manager's view in real time, and the full training record is ready for an inspector in seconds. Layer the automatic volume discounts on top and this becomes the most economical accredited electrical safety training in Ireland.
The price is the price: course, unlimited retakes and instant electrical safety certificate, all in one figure with nothing bolted on at checkout.
Fixed course dates and site schedules were never going to fit together. This self paced electrical safety course moves exactly as fast as you do, pausing on any device and resuming precisely where you stopped, before an early start, after a callout or between jobs.
A clear progress bar shows how much training remains and how close the certificate is. Plenty of learners finish in a single sitting; plenty of others spread it across a week of breaks. Both approaches end in the same certificate.
Assigned across a team, the course wraps around rotas and site hours without pulling anyone off the tools, which is exactly why Irish employers return to Ireland Safety Training year after year.
Nothing sits in a review queue. The moment the assessment is passed, the digital electrical safety certificate is generated, aligned with Irish legislation and recognised across Ireland, the UK and Europe.
It stays in your account permanently, ready to download again for HSA inspections, client audits, job applications, agency registrations and insurance renewals, and its unique verification code lets anyone confirm it on the spot.
For people building a career in construction, maintenance, facilities or hospitality, an electrical safety certificate is the named proof of hazard awareness employers increasingly request before anyone touches powered equipment on their site.
Every module was written by licensed, Chartered (CMIOSH) health and safety consultants who have assessed genuine electrical risks across Irish workplaces.
The difference is visible in the detail: risk assessments worked through on real situations rather than theory, safe isolation explained step by step the way it actually runs on site, and honest coverage of the quieter dangers, the overloaded extension lead behind the counter, the kettle lead frayed at the plug, the cable nobody located before the drill went into the wall.
Everything is reviewed against current Irish legislation and HSA guidance on electricity at work, so the course never drifts behind the rules.
Electrical work happens at dawn, at midnight and every hour in between, so the platform never closes. Begin the electrical safety training after a late shift, continue before the next one and finish on a day off, in whatever rhythm suits your week.
Progress syncs across devices automatically, making the switch from phone to laptop mid module completely seamless. Early starters, night maintenance crews and weekend workers all receive the same premium experience.
Modules stay open after completion too: reopen the safe isolation module before an unfamiliar job, or the risk assessment module ahead of an audit, and treat the course as a reference that keeps on working.
More than 749,500 learners across Ireland, the UK and Europe have certified with Ireland Safety Training, achieving a 98% pass rate and leaving a 4.9 star average in verified Google reviews we cannot edit or hide.
From Dublin to Cork, Galway to Limerick and Waterford to Belfast, this electrical safety training keeps Irish organisations compliant and keeps the people who work around electricity alert and safe.
Employers keep coming back for the same reasons: tidy records, instant certificates and a support team that genuinely answers.
Any workplace that runs on electricity, which is every workplace in Ireland. The risk is not confined to electricians: the kitchen with a frayed kettle lead, the office with a daisy chained extension block, the site where nobody scanned for buried cables before digging, each one is an electrical accident waiting for a reason. Under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005, the written risk assessment decides how those hazards are controlled, and Part 3 of the General Application Regulations 2007 makes safe electrical equipment a named legal duty.
In practice our learners are electricians and apprentices, builders and site crews, IT and telecoms technicians, appliance repair staff, maintenance and facilities teams, warehouse operatives, kitchen and retail staff, farm workers and the managers who plan their work.
If your people plug in, switch on or work anywhere near cables and powered equipment, this training was written for them, and our support team here in Ireland will gladly help you bring it to every site.
How electricity injures, the four main hazards, the everyday situations that cause them in Irish workplaces and the controls that prevent them.
Current passing through the body disrupts the heart rhythm and breathing and causes muscle contraction that can stop a person releasing the conductor. As little as 30 milliamps across the chest can be fatal, which is why residual current devices trip at that level. Severity depends on the current, the path through the body, the duration and how wet the skin is. Shock also throws people off ladders and into machinery.
Current heats tissue along its path, causing deep internal burns that look minor on the skin. A short circuit on a high energy supply produces an arc flash: a blast of heat, light and molten metal that burns unprotected skin metres away and ignites clothing. Arc flash is the main hazard for people working on or near live switchgear and distribution boards.
Electrical faults are the leading cause of workplace fires: overloaded sockets and extension leads, damaged insulation, loose connections that overheat, equipment left on and covered, and heaters near combustibles. In atmospheres with flammable gas, vapour or dust, a spark from a switch or a static discharge causes an explosion, which is why such areas need intrinsically safe equipment.
Damaged cables and plugs still in use. Extension leads daisy chained or run through doorways and under carpets. Equipment used in wet or outdoor conditions without an RCD. Untrained people opening equipment or working on circuits assumed to be dead. Contact with overhead lines by ladders, scaffolds, tipping trailers and excavators, and with buried cables by digging. Portable appliances never inspected.
Competent electricians only for installation and repair, with Safe Electric registration for domestic and general work. Isolation, locking off and proving dead before any work on a circuit. RCD protection for portable equipment, outdoor and wet area use. Visual checks by users and periodic inspection and testing of portable appliances. Reduced voltage, 110 volt centre tapped, tools on construction sites. Cable location and safe digging practices. Training for everyone in recognising and reporting electrical hazards.
Enough to stop a heart, and the level at which an RCD trips to save a life.
Overloads, damaged insulation and loose connections start most workplace fires.
No work on a circuit until it is isolated and proved dead by a competent person.
The accredited Electrical Safety Course teaches non electrical staff to recognise these hazards and use equipment safely, with a CPD certified certificate in about an hour.
