Regulations 71 to 73 of the 2007 Regulations: workstation analysis, training and information, breaks, eye and eyesight tests paid by the employer and the Schedule 4 minimum requirements.
Display screen equipment work in Ireland is governed by Part 2, Chapter 5 of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007, Regulations 71 to 73, with the minimum requirements for workstations set out in Schedule 4. The duties fall on the employer, they apply to home workstations as much as to the office, and one of them, the eye test, is a right many employees do not know they have.

Let's be honest with you. The internet is full of scam training websites and reviews no real customer wrote. That's why we do the opposite. Every review we have was written by a real person who took a real course with us. No fakes. No hidden feedback. They all live on Google Maps, where we can't edit, delete or hide a single word. Now we hold the No.1 spot across the whole of Ireland, with the best reputation in the country and more real reviews than any other health and safety training company, built on 30 years of real work at honest prices. You don't have to take our word for it. Just tap the Verify us on Google button below and read every review. One last thing, friend to friend: scammers have started copying our company name and registering look-alike domains that use "Ireland Safety" or "Irish" in the name. Those websites are not us. Please be careful, and check the reviews on Google Maps before you trust.

Straight answers about the DSE course for Ireland learners: local acceptance, online delivery, certification and pricing at Ireland Safety Training.
Yes, for DSE employees: an eye and eyesight test before starting screen work, at regular intervals and when visual difficulties arise, plus special corrective glasses where they are needed specifically for the screen work.
Yes. Regulation 72 requires the employer to analyse every workstation used by a DSE employee and to remedy the risks found.
The regulations require periodic breaks or changes of activity without fixing a time. HSA guidance suggests short frequent breaks, for example five to ten minutes away from the screen every hour, are better than longer infrequent ones.

Regulations 71 to 73 of the 2007 Regulations: workstation analysis, training and information, breaks, eye and eyesight tests paid by the employer and the Schedule 4 minimum requirements.
Analyse every workstation used by a DSE employee to evaluate the risks to eyesight, physical problems and mental stress, and take measures to remedy the risks found. Ensure workstations meet the Schedule 4 minimum requirements. Plan the daily work routine so that screen work is periodically interrupted by breaks or changes of activity. Provide employees with information about all aspects of safety and health relating to their workstation and about the measures taken, and provide training in the use of the workstation before starting DSE work and whenever the workstation is substantially modified.
Employees are entitled to an appropriate eye and eyesight test, carried out by a competent person, before starting DSE work, at regular intervals thereafter and whenever they experience visual difficulties that may be due to screen work. Where the test shows that normal corrective appliances cannot be used and special corrective appliances are needed for the DSE work, the employer must provide them. The employer pays for the tests and for the special glasses, and the tests are during working hours.
Screen: stable image, adjustable brightness and contrast, easily swivelled and tilted, free of reflective glare. Keyboard: tiltable, separate from the screen, with space in front to rest the hands. Desk: sufficient size and a low reflectance surface, with a document holder where needed. Chair: stable, adjustable in seat height and back height and tilt, with a footrest available on request. Environment: enough space to change position, adequate lighting without glare, windows with adjustable coverings, noise and heat that do not distract, humidity controlled. Software: suitable for the task, easy to use, adapted to the user's knowledge, with no covert monitoring.
Most employers use a self assessment checklist completed by the employee, reviewed by a trained assessor, with adjustments made and recorded. The assessment is repeated when the workstation, the software or the employee's circumstances change, and it covers home workstations for hybrid and remote staff.
Assess every workstation, meet Schedule 4, plan breaks, inform and train.
Eye tests and special glasses for DSE work, paid by the employer.
Screen, keyboard, desk, chair, lighting, space, noise, heat, software.
The accredited DSE Course delivers the Regulation 72 training for every screen user and produces the certificate for the employer's records.
