The hazards of angle grinders, how kickback happens, the guard, disc and PPE rules, and a safe working routine from set up to switch off.
The angle grinder is the most used, and the most misused, abrasive wheel machine on Irish sites. A 230 mm disc edge travels at over 280 kilometres per hour. Kickback, bursting discs, guards removed for convenience and cutting discs used for grinding account for most of the serious injuries, and every one of them is preventable with the right routine.

Let's be honest with you. The internet is full of scam training websites and reviews no real customer wrote. That's why we do the opposite. Every review we have was written by a real person who took a real course with us. No fakes. No hidden feedback. They all live on Google Maps, where we can't edit, delete or hide a single word. Now we hold the No.1 spot across the whole of Ireland, with the best reputation in the country and more real reviews than any other health and safety training company, built on 30 years of real work at honest prices. You don't have to take our word for it. Just tap the Verify us on Google button below and read every review. One last thing, friend to friend: scammers have started copying our company name and registering look-alike domains that use "Ireland Safety" or "Irish" in the name. Those websites are not us. Please be careful, and check the reviews on Google Maps before you trust.

The hazards of angle grinders, how kickback happens, the guard, disc and PPE rules, and a safe working routine from set up to switch off.
Kickback when the disc jams or snags and the grinder is thrown back towards the user. Wheel bursting from damage, overspeed, wrong mounting or side loading a cutting disc. Contact with the spinning disc. Flying fragments, sparks and hot metal, which also start fires. Dust, including silica from concrete and stone. Noise above 100 dB(A). Hand arm vibration over long use.
Check the disc: correct type for the task, undamaged, within its expiry date, speed rating at or above the grinder's rpm, correctly mounted with the right flanges and the locking nut tight. Check the guard is fitted and positioned between the disc and your body. Check the handle is fitted. Inspect the cable and plug or the battery. Clear the area of flammables and set up a screen if others are nearby.
Hold with both hands, stand to the side of the cutting line, never in line with the disc. Let the grinder reach full speed before contact and do not force it. Cut with the disc square to the work; never twist a cutting disc in the cut and never grind on the side of a cutting disc. Keep the cable behind you. After switching off, wait for the disc to stop before setting the grinder down.
Impact rated eye protection plus a face shield, hearing protection, gloves, flame resistant clothing without loose ends, safety boots, and respiratory protection where dust is created. Use water suppression or on tool extraction when cutting concrete or stone.
Disc jams, grinder flies back. Stand aside, both hands, no forcing, no twisting.
Fitted, adjusted, between the disc and your body. Removing it is the classic fatal shortcut.
Cutting discs cut. Grinding discs grind. Speed rating at or above the machine rpm.
